Work continues on the ´61 sunroof, here you see one of the areas which usually requires repairs when doing a full on restauration. The old crossmember is removed by first drilling out all the original factory spotwelds.

Aquí se puede apreciar el estado de la zona en cuestión antes de cortar y soldar el panel nuevo. Para quitar el panel hemos taladrado las soldaduras originales para poder repetir el método usado por VW.

Here is the new double skin crossmember and note the new floor pans already fitted (all these body repair panels are available at Volkstuning).

Una vez terminado con la chapa se ha decapado a fondo para poder conseguir la mejor base para aparejo y pintura. Una vez conseguido éste estado se le aplica un neutralizador de óxido.

Once all the body repairs had been done, the body was bared metal and then treated with a powerful rust remover and zinc phosphate pre-primer & metal etch.

Hoy os presentamos el proyecto de nuestro amigo Lee del equipo Volkstuning quien está preparando su T2 del ´66 para la temporada 2010, proyecto el cuál incluye rebajada de suspensión, un buen y potente motor, eliminación de la reductora y un gran sinfin de detalles que os iremos mostrando según evolucionen, asi que esteis conectados!

Lee from the Volkstuning Team is giving his ´66 Type 2 a new look for the 2010 Season. Part of the look is lower suspension, removable of the reduction boxes, new engine, new interior and new colour skin as well as some well chosen accesories so for future updates stay tuned!

Mientras, se ha lijado, pintado y preparado en su color original gris claro (L472) para todo su interior , y aunque luego no todo este trabajo se pueda apreciar cuando esté montado, en Volkstuning decimos: Si lo vas a hacer, Hazlo Bien!

The interior has also being prep and painted in its original colour light grey (L472), obviously once the interior is fitted you would not be able to appreciate this, and as we say at Volkstuning: If you are going to do it, Do It Right!

El hueco del motor tambien se esta preparado para ser pintado al igual que la esquina y el piso de la bateria.

Some of the body work in this case the batery tray has been replaced, the botton left corner has also had filler removed and the panel and repaired properly. All these will soon be prepaired for paint!

Como se ve en la foto, las cogidas de los paragolpes traseros tb estaban un poco pasadas y como siempre hemos usado una chapa de reparación de alta calidad.

As you can see the rear bumper hangers where also in dire need of replacement, the old and rotten has been removed and replaced with high quality repair panels.

Los laterales tb se han cambiado, pero en éste caso se han cambiado por unos laterales más anchos, si has intentado montar un motor 1600cc o más grande en un escarabajo de los 60 sabrás muy bien que cuesta y éstos laterales hay que doblarlos e incluso cortarlos para que entre bien el motor, como para éste proyecto tenemos pendiente un Motor Stroker decidimos solucionar este problema desde el principio.

The engine side trays also required replacement, here we decided to fit the narower type of tray available as the plan is to fit a stroker engine which is wider than standard, ask anyone who has fitted an 1600cc or larger engine to an early 60 bug and they will tell you that they do not fit without a lot of bending and cutting.

El lado izquierdo también se ha cambiado, ya que estamos... También en ésta fase preparamos el acceso para los carburadores, este kit es genial y te permite hacer ajustes y cambiar bujías con el mínimo de trabajo, estos kits estan disponibles en Volkstuning.

The same repairs were required to the left hand side of the car, at this stage we have also fitted our hi pack kits, this allow easy access to the carbs and if done right look factory, but the best reason for fitting is to make fine tuning and changing spark plugs easy, these kits are available from Volkstuning.
